Facilitator Spotlight

Jo Williams, Boonah Branch

This month we would like to highlight Jo Williams from QCWA Boonah Branch in West Moreton Division. Here are a few words from Jo about being a Country Kitchens facilitator:

There are a few things that influenced me to become a facilitator. The first was seeing my friend of 50 years, Gabriella Field from Tin Can Bay Branch, embrace the Country Kitchens program with such enthusiasm and energy. I feel overwhelmed at the thought of challenging big issues like childhood obesity and chronic ill health, but it is within my reach to influence small changes that will contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of my community. Finally, I think there is a definite shift in thinking in our society back toward traditional home-steading activities.

I would encourage other branch members to become Country Kitchens facilitators. You could become involved simply to improve your own nutrition, to make and share recipes with your branch and community as I am doing, or to partner with other organisations and teach hands-on workshops, as many of our members have done. You can do whatever you have the time and capacity for. That is the beauty of the program.

If you or someone you know is keen to work with the QCWA Country Kitchens program, we are always looking to increase our volunteer workforce. To learn all about what we do, please get in touch with the team on 0417 539 663, or head to our website: qcwacountrykitchens.com.au
