Su has been a Country Kitchens Facilitator for Charleville branch, since 2017.
Su enjoys cooking new recipes, reading, gardening, and sharing meals with friends and family. Her interest in the program began after attending a Country Kitchens workshop, where she had a lot of fun and found the experience informative.
As a dedicated QCWA member and Country Kitchens facilitator, Su identifies her communication skills and her ability to take action as her key strengths. While she is confident in taking the lead on initiatives, she also values the collaborative spirit and working with others to organise activities and drive positive change.
Su has provided hands on CK experiences at the Charleville Healthy Ageing centre, Thargomindah and Charleville School of Distance Education Sports weeks, Quilpie QCWA workshop and has regularly featured at the Charleville Show as part of a Foodie Talk and Cooking demonstration showcase. Su regularly makes healthy Country Kitchens recipes at home and for QCWA events.
After completing the Level 6 PATHway training about Advocacy last year, Su was eager to take on an advocacy project. In November 2023, she lead the “Drink More Water” advocacy campaign for Warrego Division, making her the first facilitator to run a Level 6 activity. The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness about the importance of hydration and to encourage community members to be aware of sugar in their drinks and prioritise water over other drinks. This is a particularly important issue in the region due to their climate and dry summer heat.
These are just some of the many ways that Su influences the health of her community through the Country Kitchens program.
