Facilitator Spotlight

Kaylene Adams, Malanda Branch

Here are a few words from Kaylene at Malanda Branch in Atherton Tableland Division about being a Country Kitchens facilitator:

My name is Kaylene and I have been a Country Kitchens facilitator for QCWA Malanda branch since 2019. I joined program as I was retired and have always liked food and people. I thought I would be a good fit for the role as I had been a cook for thirteen years in aged care, and then went on to manage the catering team for a further eight years after that.

I have been involved in a range of Country Kitchens activities, both in Malanda and also in collaboration with other facilitators across Atherton Tableland Division. I have assisted with showcases at the Malanda Christmas Markets and the Atherton Show, and also helped with a guest speaker presentation at an Atherton Rotary Club meeting earlier this year. After attending the Level 4 Facilitator Training Day in Malanda last year with other facilitators in the Division, we also worked together to deliver hands on nutrition workshops to students at Malanda State School.

Outside of Country Kitchens, I am passionate about hand crafts and I have my teachers hand craft badge for QCWA. In my spare time I also love cooking, gardening and bike riding.

I believe others should get involved with QCWA Country Kitchens as it is a fun way to meet other like minded people, learn about easy healthy cooking and help others in your community.

If you or someone you know is keen to work with the QCWA Country Kitchens program, we are always looking to increase our volunteer workforce. To learn all about what we do, please get in touch with the team on 0417 539 663, or head to our website: qcwacountrykitchens.com.au
